Hello and welcome to a new feature on For The Geek where we take a look back at the biggest news and events in the last 7 days of Geek, coming to you every Thors-day.
In this inaugural edition we look back at the week when the internet went crazy about some female Ghostbusters, we got some more Age of Ultron photos and everyone released their Superbowl trailers.
Let’s start with the news that the Paul Feig directed Ghostbusters will be hitting US cinema screens on 22nd July 2016.

There’s been no end of talk about this over the past week, mainly due to the confirmation that the lead characters will all be played by women. Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy will be joined by Saturday Night Live stars Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones as the titular busters of ghosts.
I’m still not sure how to feel about this myself. On the one hand I love Ghostbusters (my wife and I sat and watched it again this week), it’s a classic, I’ve enjoyed Paul Feig’s previous films and I like Kristen Wiig. But doing another film doesn’t sit right with me, not because of who’s in the film but because of who isn’t. If there’s no Venkman and Stantz then there is no real Ghostbusters. No offence to Messrs Spengler and Zeddemore, they played their part, but it’s Venkman and Stantz that are the heart and soul of the team and therefore the film.
Speaking of great characters, did you see that JK Simmons this week seemed to hint that he could return to the Spider-Man franchise as Daily Bugle boss J. Jonah Jameson?
Let’s face it JK Simmons is JJJ. His performance in the Sam Raimi Spidey films was one the best aspects of the trilogy, an example of perfect casting. This week he was asked about whether he would ever play the character again by Howard Stern and Simmons said “I just heard that we…that’s a possibility.” He didn’t say much else but did say that he would “absolutely” grab the opportunity should it arise.
You hear that Sony? Get on the phone!
Two more popular Lego games (three if you include Ninjago, which I don’t) will be released in 2015 after Warner Bros announced Lego Jurassic World and Lego Avengers will be released this year.
Lego Jurassic World will come out around the time of the new movie and will include all four Jurassic Park movies. I can’t tell you how excited my wife was when I told her about this one, she loves the Lego games and has 100% completed every one she’s ever played (just finished Lego Marvel and now on Lego Hobbit). Playing as Lego dinosaurs should be pretty fun!
Lego Avengers, the second Lego game to be centered around Marvel characters, will come out later in the year and will follow the events of Avengers Assemble and Age of Ultron. It’s not yet clear if the other Marvel films will be included in this but I’m hopeful.
Oh and if you prefer your Lego in it’s physical form then get ready for a Doctor Who set to be released later this year!
There’s yet another DC TV show in development and a leaked script seems to point at which characters we can expect to see in Titans, based on the Teen Titans comic, which will air on TNT.
The Nerdist has reported that the team will be led by Dick Grayson in his Robin persona. It’s expected that the series will show his transition into Nightwing as he goes through a falling out with Batman and moves to Boston. With Dick will be Barbara Gordon (in a wheelchair but referred to as Oracle in the script), Raven, Hawk & Dove; with Starfire joining the team during the opening episode.
So no Cyborg or Beast Boy, at least not in the shows first episode. What do you make of that lineup?

This week also saw the long awaited trailer for Season 5 of Game of Thrones hit the internet. I’m not going to go into detail and write a breakdown of everything in it (Den of Geek did a decent job of that if you’re interested), I’m just going to leave this here…

In other TV trailer news it looks like the “teaser of the teaser trailer trailer” issue has spread to TV. On Tuesday Marvel released a teaser for the upcoming Daredevil series. It contained 5 seconds of footage. 5! And then on Wednesday we got the full teaser trailer. Seriously, one day later we get the proper version. I think that most of us rational human beings could have gone those 24 hours without those 5 seconds existing, are we agreed that this was a waste? Anyway, here’s the full teaser trailer if you haven’t seen it;
And I’ll leave you now with some other superhero TV news as Brandon Routh’s Ray Palmer from Arrow has had his ATOM costume revealed…
What did you guys make of the past 7 days, any big geeky stories that I missed? We’d love to hear your thoughts on these stories so leave us a comment below.
